President’s Message:

To start, I would like to thank each of you who have already renewed your 2009 BBCA membership.  I also look forward to meeting all of our new BBCA members in the near future.  It’s not too late to join BBCA in 2009.  If you have not yet paid your membership, and wish to do so, please fill out attached registration form, and return it to BBCA via regular mail.

Your financial contributions to BBCA are greatly appreciated.  The financial support of membership allows BBCA to maintain and improve our community beach properties, relay relevant information and news to membership, and host social events at Society Hill Beach.

I have a simple goal for 2009.  It is to increase volunteer participation by our paid membership.  We are fortunate to have a strong foundation of core volunteers who have been donating their time and talent to maintain and improve BBCA properties and foster social interaction in our community.  But increased volunteer participation is required for BBCA to continue to flourish.

The following BBCA committee chairs are vacant and require filling:

Audit Chair (Balances the actual financial transactions against the actual budget;  reviews all income and expenditure records, membership and dues records, bank account records, and verifies the appropriate documentation of the above transactions; completes fiscal year audit from January 1st through December 31st by Jan 31st and submit report and recommendations to the executive board immediately upon completion of audit.

Membership Chair (Seeks potential new members from the community and works closely with the treasurer to maintain a membership database.)

Events/Social Chair (Coordinates the Easter egg hunt, Fourth of July parade, bonfire with Santa, and the tiki party.)

Anyone who is interested in filling these positions will be exempt from having to pay 2009 membership dues.  If you have already paid your dues, a refund check will be issued to you.  We are also interested in identifying coordinators to run the community yard sale and maintain and update the BBCA website. Student volunteers are also welcome in assisting BBCA with administrative, social and maintenance activities.  Any interested parties can contact me directly.

I firmly believe that there isn’t a better community to live in St. Mary’s County than Breton Bay.  In its simplest terms, there is a direct relationship between what BBCA can do for you, and what you can do for BBCA.  I would like to extend a personal invitation to the next BBCA general membership meeting at the Breton Bay clubhouse on April 28, 2009.  I am optimistic that the single goal identified in this message for 2009 will be achieved.

Joe Bell

2009 BBCA President

Spring General Membership Meeting

The spring general membership meeting is scheduled for April 28, 2009.  One of the purposes of this meeting is to review the BBCA bylaws and for membership to make recommendations to the executive board for amendments as necessary.  Proposed amendment changes must be presented to the executive board in writing for review and consideration prior to presentation to members in good standing at the next general membership meeting for a vote.  Bylaws are available for review at www.bretonbay.org/bylaws.  Please submit any changes in writing to me at

bellj@md.metrocast.net by April 4, 2009.

Society Hill and Lake & Breton View Beach Properties

Enclosed in this mailing are your 2009 BBCA member identification placards.  These placards are designed to be hung from the rear-view mirror of your vehicle when parked at the Society Hill Beach.

The beach properties are established for the use and enjoyment by paid BBCA membership and their guests.  Guests should always be accompanied by a BBCA member during visits to these community properties.  Please report any suspicious or disruptive behavior to an executive board member.

Committees for both the Lake & Breton View and Society Hill Beaches plan to continue ongoing maintenance and beautification projects at both locations.  Again, if you are interested in volunteering your services to assist in beautification and/or maintenance projects this spring and summer at the beaches, please contact a BBCA executive board member for additional information.  Any assistance in picking up litter at either beach location is greatly appreciated during your visits.
